If I had to choose, I would probably say "Smoke Again ft. Picking a favorite track off of this mixtape is like trying to pick your favorite child. But, every song on this tape deserves individual attention and multiple listens to truly let the message and effect sink in. The song is perfectly complemented by NoName Gypsy’s verse and ties the song together into a genuine hit. He displays his sensitive and creative side on "Lost" through discussing his intense drug use and its interaction with his love life. Chance’s lyrical content on this tape and topics covered are simultaneously fun and real. "Acid Rap" displays incredible production value and features, most notably: Twista, Childish Gambino, Action Bronson, Ab-Soul and Vic Mensa. Every song off this 13-track tape is a jam and makes you want to run each one back again and again. My feet instantly started tapping and I was hooked. "Acid Rap" gets the listeners attention right from the start with "Good Ass Intro." The beat, the lyrics, the flow, fuck this kid is good. It will most likely go down in history as one of the greatest mixtapes ever and if it were his debut album, I think it could rival–dare I say?–Nas's "Illmatic" as one of the best albums ever. Finally, on April 30, 2013, my prayers were answered and Chance dropped his sophomore mixtape, “Acid Rap.” Now I thought–and still think–that “10 Day" was incredible, but holy shit "Acid Rap" is just on an entirely different level. I sat and sulked, just waiting to hear that slightly whiny voice grace us with his presence. Not listening to new Chance was like going through withdrawal for me. You get your fill of chill tracks– "Windows,” “Brain Cells”–and you get a taste of how he kills it on a hyphy track– “Fuck You Tahm Bout.” I honestly got a little emotional when the last song, “Hey Ma,” came to an end because I did not know when we would hear Chance next. This rookie tape showcases Chance’s versatility as an artist as well. Chance silenced the disbelievers, said fuck the haters and demonstrated just how creative, smart and talented he is. This 14-track setlist discusses Chance’s 10-day suspension from high school and how his teachers viewed him as stupid, incapable and just another statistic. His debut mixtape, “10 Day," honestly left me speechless and craving more. Chance is never afraid to speak his mind and let the world hear his unfiltered thoughts. He constantly uses double-entendres, word play and a variety of Chicago slang that leaves the listener amazed, confused and hungry for more all at once.
His likes are few and far between and we should appreciate just how good and rare he really is.
